TLS and SSL protocols operate at the sublayer below. It encrypts HTTP messages during transmission and decrypts them upon arrival.

Below are some of the most important events that occur during an HTTPS connection:

When you enter something into your browser, the Client (your web browser), requests a secure URL.

The web server that hosts your website sends you a public key along with its certificate (TLS/SSL).

Your browser verifies the security certificates: It checks if the certificate is valid, not expired, and was issued by a trusted entity.

Your web browser then creates a Symmetric-key and sends it back to the webserver.

The web server will decrypt the key using the private key.

The web server will then send the requested URL to your browser in encrypted form with a symmetrical key.

Your web browser will decrypt the webpage you have received with the symmetric key, and display the result.

The entire process mentioned above takes less than a second. It is not noticeable on the internet.
