Getting Started Working in Cyber Security in Louisiana

In Louisiana, there are numerous options for obtaining an undergraduate degree or certification. The National Cyber Research Park, which employs many cybersecurity professionals, is located in the Shreveport metropolitan area. General Dynamics has a new Integrated Technology Center in the area, which has brought over 800 new jobs to the area, and Bossier Parish Community College has expanded instructional buildings at the park to handle the increase in students attending the programme.

Undergraduate Degrees:

Bossier Parish Community College offers a two-year Associate of Applied Science in Cyber Technology with a total of 60 credit hours. Students who complete this programme should be able to do risk assessments, implement new industry innovations, communicate effectively as part of a team, and analyse technical material fluently.

The Information Systems Security Professionals certification is also available at the community college. This is a 24-credit-hour programme that focuses solely on IT and security curriculum and is appropriate for students who already have a basic understanding of computer science. Problem Solving and Programming Techniques, IT Hardware and Software Support, and IT Ethics are some examples of courses.

A Bachelor of Science in Computer Science with a Cyber Security specialisation is available at Louisiana Tech University. This 120-credit-hour curriculum has a variety of concentrations, but Cyber Security will require 12 credits and is commonly completed in the latter two years of the programme. Introduction to Cyber Security and Computer Networks are mandatory courses, with two additional courses chosen by the student to personalise their degree. Digital forensics, cryptography, and cloud computing are among the topics covered.

Masters and Continuing Education:

Students who require additional training might consider the Graduate Certificate in Information Assurance. In order to be accepted into this advanced programme, you must have a Bachelor’s degree. Three of the following four courses are required after studying the prerequisite Introduction to Information Systems Assurance: Incident Response and Computer Forensics, Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity, Information Systems Assurance Risk Analysis, and Principles of Cryptography. This curriculum can be used as a concentration for students pursuing a Master of Business Administration, and it can be completed before or after that programme is completed. Students can enrol in the programme either on the main campus in Ruston or in Bossier City.
