Getting Started Working In Cyber Security In Oklahoma

With various universities offering higher education alternatives, anyone can get an education or develop their job in cybersecurity, regardless of their degree of expertise. These programs are also accessible in Midwest City, Oklahoma City, San Antonio, Stillwater, and Tulsa for students who do not want to complete them online.

Bachelor’s degrees:

An Associate in Applied Science in Computer Science with a focus on Cyber and Information Security is available at Oklahoma City Community College. This program teaches cybersecurity fundamentals, as well as Linux, Windows, Oracle, and SQL abilities, as well as soft skills like communication. Students will be prepared for the CompTIA A+ certification after completing the curriculum, which will take two years. In the computer science area, all grades must be C or better.

Another community college in Midwest City, Rose State College, offers a Cyber Security and Digital Forensics Associate in Applied Science. Students can pick between those two professions or go with the Cyber Science option. There are five courses (15 credits) in the Cyber Security option, and three of the – Information Security Management, Ethical Hacking and Systems Defense, and Enterprise Threat Assessment – will require a B or higher mark. The remaining courses are for general education in communications, US government, arithmetic, and finance. The Cyber Security certificate, which takes 42 total credit hours rather than the 63 required for the AAS, is another alternative.

Continuing Education and Master’s Degrees:

Oklahoma State University and the University of Tulsa are the two CAE-designated Master’s degree programs in the state. Many Master’s degrees at OSU have Information Assurance as a concentration, including Business Administration, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Management and Information Systems, and Telecommunications Management. A straight Master of Science in Cybersecurity is offered by the University of Tulsa.

Job Opportunities in Cybersecurity:

For those just starting in the cybersecurity profession, Oklahoma City has a lot of options. Identifying inconsistent and dangerous activity within a network, documenting and uncovering trends when attacks occur to provide future security improvements, and communicating with leadership and executive roles to recommend improvements will be among the responsibilities of the cybersecurity analyst at General Dynamics.
